Winter is the time that most flowering plants hibernate and wait for Spring. But these plants have bloom in winter and are harbingers of Spring. They provide us relief from the short days and darkness of winter and give us hope with the solstice in December that the days are truly getting longer and that a new explosion of life is going to occur in a few months with the advent of the Spring season. While we are waiting, they provide us with with color to brighten up our dreary winter months. I call these plants winter beauty and cultivating them is an annual ritual.
