Longwood Conservatory has one of the largest orchid collections under cover on the East Coast. They have a permanent collection that is on display and available for viewing year round and a "meadows" orchid "extravaganza" display in the early Spring each year. Longwood is a former Dupont estate in eastern Pennsylvania and is well worth the 2 hour car trip from Washington DC. It is a popular tour destination for Washingtonians and I consider it an extension of the "storybook" garden estates of the DC metropolitan area.
