Shooting flowers is an intimate experience - more intimate and revealing to me than shooting nudes. The blossom is of course the reproductive organ of the flower, and that is its reason for being. The question, of course, is why does a blossom have to be incredibly beautiful to serve its reproductive function? No one can really answer this, beyond simply: beauty is its own excuse for being.
Flowers and their blossoms remind me with assurance that beauty underlies our creation. I try to celebrate this beauty in my photography, and I find that photographing flowers is always a revealing and rewarding experience.
Each of these heart of flower images can be printed for individual display, but I believe that they are most effective and reinforce each other when displayed together in a set of three or more images.
